Due to religious differences, Ussher lost
influence inside the Church of Ireland by 1635 and removed himself from Dublin to Drogheda;
moved to London in 1640, to Oxford 1642 to avoid the rising political tensions; his income as
archbishop ceased in 1641 due to the Irish rising, but in 1642 he was compensated by the
temporalities of the seat of Carlisle; left in 1645 with Prince Charles to Bristol, then
Cardiff, then St Donats in Glamorgan; back in London in 1646
